OVERVIEW

1988 944 "Celebration Edition"
PORSCHE CODE M757
or 757

By 1988 sales were falling dramatically, with the production down by nearly a third from 1987. Howerver, this only encouraged Porsche to celebrate the 944 breaking all the company's previous sales records.  To mark the 100,000th car rolling off the Neckarsulm production line, a limited edition was made available in either Zermatt Silver or Satin Black Metallic.

These Celebration models- effectively standard cars brought up to a very high specification, featured black leatherette, the attractive grey or maroon "STUDIO" cloth and silver and grey carpeting.  The new split rear seat backs were included, along with automatic heating control and removable electrically tilting sunroof.  Wheels were the optional 7J front and 8J rear “telephone dials”, fitted with 205/55VR16 and 225/50VR16 tires respectively.  Integral fog lamps were also fitted at the front.  US models did not have the rear “944” logo found on the cars for other markets.

OTHER SPECIAL EDITIONS THAT YEAR

They built three models, a 911 Commemorative Edition, a 944 Special Edition Package and a 924S Special Edition. All three models were shipped with a round brass colored commemorative medalion, usually found applied to the dash.

" The Special Edition 924S place a major emphasis on improved performance. The suspension, wheels and tires are upgraded, while a small number of standard convenience features, such s power windows, power mirrors, coin and cassette holders, are omitted to reduce weight. Naturally, this select edition of the 924S is highlighted by a unique exterior/interior treatment. The lustrous black paint is contrasted by gray/burgundy pinstriped seats in flannel/leatherette, and lush burgundy carpeting. A commenorative plaque documents the car's original significance.

The brochure states:

Larger lightweight 16 inch Cast Alloy Wheels and 205/55VR16 rated tires improve handling and traction.

The Sport Suspension Package includes stiffer spring settings, stronger shocks and larger diameter stabilizer bars for quicker, more precise response and improved nandling characteristics.

944-type Body Side Moldings help protect the finish of your 924 from the perils of the parking lot.

Door Panels are covered in matching gray/burgundy cloth for a cohesive look, as well as an added touch of elegance.

The window sticker lists the Special Edition Equipment ~ "This vehicle is a Special Edition Series whcih includes the following options:
Custom Seats and Carpets
Sport Handling Package
Rear Stone Deflectors
7J X 15 Rear Wheel Rims
Protective Side Moldings"
